Aims:The aim of the study was to evaluate the clinical effects of the frontalis sling operation using silicone rod for the correction of ptosis in chronic progressive external ophthalmoplegia patients.Methods:This is a retrospective interventional case series study of 6 chronic progressive external ophthalmoplegia patients (12 eyes)who received the frontalis sling operation using silicone rods by the Eye Center,Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University from December 2011 to June 2013. Postoperative follow-up, and the effect of the surgery, indications, surgical volume and surgical techniques were summarized.Results:In 6 cases (12 eyes), the eyelid contour and the formation of double eyelid were good, and the height of the lid was normal. ︳After 2-3 years’ follow-up, the height of the lid was partly declined, but still not cover visual axis.Conclusion:The frontalis sling operation using silicone rod can safely and effectively correct ptosis in chronic progressive external ophthalmoplegia patients, can restore the physiological function of the eyelids, and can achieve the effect of improving the beauty. The surgical operation is simple, small injury, long-term effect, so can be used as the preferred choice for Chronic progressive external ophthalmoplegia patients with ptosis. |
