The Effect Of Compound Xiaonang Powder On Ovary And Reproductive Hormones In Rats

Chinese medicine compound of Xiaonang powder is composed of many kinds of Chinese herbal medicine, e.g. Astragalus membranaceus, Codonopsis pilosula, Radix paeoniae rubra. Xiaonang powder is a clinical proved recipe used to treat ovarian cysts of cows. This study is to give scientific evaluation on the safety of this medicine by testing general toxicity on experimental animals. Probe into the effect of Xiaonang powder on ovary and related reproductive hormones in experimental rats, is aimed at providing reliable laboratory basis for the drugs.The experimental results show that:(1) The general toxicity test:after the experimental mice were fed with the decoction of Xiaonang powder, there was no median lethal dose. After drenching maximal dosed decoction in mice, there was no any toxic effects. For 14-day successive administration, the detection indexes of main physiological and biochemical in blood samples of experimental rats with the blank control groups had no significant differences. In a word, those results showed that Xiaonang powder is of high-safety and has little toxicity and side effects.(2)The effect of Xiaonang Powder on Ovary in Rats:microscopically, paraffin section of rat ovarian showed the blank control groups had a large number of different levels follicles and different size of corpus luteum.The number of follicles of experimental groups reduced significantly, and the size of follicular increased obviously. The size of corpus luteum became smaller and the number decreased significantly. Those showed that Xiaonang powder could reduce the corpus luteum and promote the development and mature of follicular in rats.(3)The effect of Xiaonang Powder on four Reproductive Hormones:after the experimental mice were fed with the decoction of Xiaonang powder, the change difference of E2. P. LH and FSH in rats serum was not significant, and it changed irregularrly. The impact of different dosage and administration time on rats showed no significant difference. That showed that Xiaonang powder had slight influence in reproductive hormones of healthy rats, but no significant difference was shown.
