Seroprevalence And Genotyping Of Toxoplasma Gondii Infection In 141 Depression And 124 Anxiety Disorder In Guizhou Province

Objective: To investigate the seroprevalence and genotyping of Toxoplasma Gondii(T.gondii) infection in 141 depression and 124 anxiety disorder in Guizhou province. Methods: 1.Peripheral blood samples were collected from depressed patients, anxiety disorder patients and the control. 2. The enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) was applied to test the specific antibodies(IgG, IgM)and circulating antigens(CAg) of T.gondii. 3. The 529 bp specific repeat DNA of T.gondii was investigated using Polymerase Chain Reaction(PCR). 4. The genotyping of T. gondii was determined using multiplex multilocus nested polymerase chain reaction–restriction fragment length polymorphism(Mn-PCR-RFLP) with 12 genetic markers for the samples which the 529 bp was positive. Results: 1. The total seroprevalence of T.gondii infection was 21.28%( 30/141) in depressed patients,20.16%(25/124)in anxiety disorder patients and 7.33%(11/150)in the control. The rate of seropositivity in depressed patients and anxiety disorder patients was significantly higher than in the control( χ2=11.674,P< 0.05, χ2=9.788,P <0.05).Separately, the positive rate of IgG, IgM,CAg in depressed patients was 18.44%(26/141), 1.42%(2/141), 1.42%(2/141). IgG and IgM were positive in one anxiety disorder sample,and the positive rate of IgG, IgM,CAg was 16.94%(21/124)、1.63%(2/124) and 2.42%(3/124).The positive rate of IgG was 7.33 %(11/150)in the control. The IgM and CAg detections were negative in all healthy people samples. 2.The 529 bp specific repeat DNA of T.gondii was found in one depressed sample,and the positive rate of 529 bp was 0.71%(1/141).The genotype was ToxoDB#9(Chinese1).Conclusion: 1.There is a probable association between T. gondii infection and depression or anxiety disorder. 2.The positive rate of 529 bp was low. This study identified one depressed sample and it was Chinese 1.
