| α-tricalcium phosphate bone cements are a bioactive graft material in the form of a powder and a liquid. In this paper, the optimized methods of preparing α-TCP were discussed from the rate of temperature increase, soaking time of 1000℃, calcination temperature and synthesis path. The purity and grain size of α-TCP powder were used to study the effect on the properties of calcium bone cement. Based on this, with α-TCP being the main component, both the solid additive including hydroxyapatite, calcium phosphate and the liquid additive including citric acid and glucose were investigated to study their effect on the setting time and mechanical properties. Results are as follows:The parameters of high-purity α-TCP powder are including the rate of temperature increase is 5℃/min, soaking time of 1000℃ is 3 hours, calcination temperature is 1350℃, soaking time of 1350℃ is 2 hours, and the powder is cooled by air. The grain size of α-TCP powder is 4.24μm after 2 hours of milling. The purity and grain size of α-TCP powder are different by different synthesis path. The purity is high and grain size is small of α-TCP powder by way called one step. When it is used to prepare calcium phosphate cement,the setting time is 23 minutes and the compressive strength is 22.63MPa.When HA is added into the solid powder of α-TCP bone cement, with the addition amount increasing, the setting time decreases, reaching 1 minute at 20%; And the compressive strength first decreases and then increases, which is about 39.8MPa at 0.5%. When the reaction temperature is-20℃ and the Ca/P of material is 1.67, synthetic product is a mixture of HA, β-TCP and CaCO3. When mixing α-TCP,2wt.%mixture with 8wt.%Na2HPO4 and 7wt.%CA, the setting time of calcium phosphate cement is 8 minutes and the maximum compressive strength is 42.2MPa. The Ca/P of material is different and the synthetic product is different too. This study is not a system and need do more research.When citric acid is added into the setting liquid, with addition amount increasing, the setting time decreases gradually, which is only 1minute at 20%, the compressive strength first increases and then decreases, which is 39.8MPa at 7%. When adding glucose, with addition amount increasing, both the setting time increases and the compressive strength gradually decreases, when the addition amount is 20%, the setting time increases from 7 minutes to 18 minutes, the compressive strength increases from 39.8MPa to 18.9MPa. |
