| ObjectiveTo compare the alignment time, the orthodontic pain after initial installation and subsequent visit, the chairside time of SmartClip self-ligating bracket appliance and MBT bracket appliance in alignment phase.Methods40 clinical cases (19 males,21 females, age ranging from 11 to 18 years, average age is 14.9±2.3 years) were selected strictly according to inclusion and exclusion standard,20 of them choose SmartClip self-ligating bracket appliance and 20 of them choose MBT bracket appliance. All the patients in the experiment were diagnosed as Class I or II malocclusion with moderate crowding in upper dentition. The maxillary alignment time, the orthodontic pain after initial installation and subsequent visit, the chairside time of both bracket systems were recorded respectively and analyzed statistically by independent t test and rank sum test with SPSS 16.0 statistical software.ResultsCompared with MBT bracket appliance, SmartClip self-ligating bracket appliance shortens the dentition alignment time, relieves the orthodontic pain, reduces the archwire engagement and disengagement chairside time, statistically significant difference has been observed (P< 0.05). While the orthodontic pain after initial installation are not statistically significant (P>0.05)ConclusionCompare with MBT bracket appliance, SmartClip self-ligating bracket appliance can shorten the alignment time, relieve the orthodontic pain after subsequent visit in alignment phase, reduce the chairside time. |
