Early Clinical Results Of Total Hip Arthroplasty With Trabecular Metal Acetabular Cups

Objective To analyze and summarize the early clinal results of total hip arthroplasty with Trabecular Metal Acetabular Cups. Methods From January 2013 to January 2015, 24 patients(26 hips) underwent total hip arthroplasty. There were 13 females and 11 males, with an average age of 52 years. Preoperative diagnosis included developmental dysplasia of the hip in 5 cases(7 hips), femoral neck fractures in 3cases(3 hips),osteoarthritis in 3 cases, avascular necrosis of the femoral head in 11 cases,femoral intertrochanteric fracture with osteoarthritis in 1 cases and cuberculous osteoarthritis of hip in 1 case. The patients were followed up at the1,3, 6,12 month after operation. X-rays were taken at the follow-ups. Acetabular component stability and osseointegration were assessed through radiograph. Harris scores system was recorded before and after operation to evaluate clinical effects of surgery. Results Clinical and radiographic evaluations were performed on every follow-up.The mean follow-up was 16 months(range, 6 to 28).The mean preoperative Harris hip score was 46.6±10.2, which were improved to 88.3±6.3 at the time of follow-up. The X-ray films showed that 2 hips had a radiolucent line evident on the immediate postoperative radiograph. These all had a zone 2 radiolucent line and filled in at the last follow-up. There was no evidence of osteolysis and loosen noted in any of these 26 hips. Intraoperative complications included femoral fracture in 4 cases.Conclusion The early clinal results of total hip arthroplasty with trabecular metal acetabular cups was encouraging and success in primary total hip arthroplasty with excellent initial stability and high rates of apparent ingrowth.
