Purpose: This study aimed to confirm the effects of Kinesio Taping on pain in delayed onset muscle soreness by comparing the effects of different interventions and to try to reveal the potential mechanisms of it.Methods:Forty healthy university students were divided into five groups: Kinesio taping treatment, pre-taping treatment, thermal treatment, placebo and control. Delayed onset muscle soreness model was induced by deep squat, then different groups were receiving five different interventions. Subjective pain feeling were assessed every 24 h after the inducing and last for 96h; Serum were sampled every 24 h and last for 72 h after the inducing. Serum IL-6 and CK were tested to show recovery process. Results:Recovery time of IL-6 and CK were calculated and then were analyzed by using ROC curve. AUC were calculated to contrast the effects different interventions. The AUC of Kinesio Taping treatment was 0.727 and that of Kinesio pre-taping treatment was 0.695, both were higher then thermal treatment and placebo, and the AUC of CK recovery time was 0.672, higher then other three interventions. RM ANOVA was employed when analyzing subjective pain assessments, and both Kinesio pre-taping group and placebo group had a significant difference when compared to the control group in Mc Gill pain questionnaire; and Kinesio pre-taping group, thermal treatment group and placebo group were all showing a significant difference when compared with control group in the GPRS assessments. Conclusion: In healthy subjects with DOMS, applying Kinesio Taping is a effective way to reduce pain and faster the recovery process during the acute stage of DOMS; Kinesio taping was found to be an effective way to lower the inflammatory responses after the acute injury when pre-taped during the deep squat; the potential mechanism of the effects of kinesio taping on pain reducing could be inhibiting the release of IL-6.
