Objective: To evaluate postoperative reaction and the recurrence rate of two d ifference operation methods for the treatment of primary pterygium between Uygur and Han patients. Method: A retrospective analysis was carried out in 93 cases(104 eyes) with primary pterygium undergone surgical treatment in zhe Second Affiliat-ed Hospital of Xinjiang Medial University.Excluded the patients who lost to follow,54 eyes(Uighur 25 eyes, Han 29 eyes) underwent pterygium simple resection, 50eyes(Uighur 24 eyes, Han 26 eyes) received pterygium excision combined with li-mbal stem cell transplantation. Postoperative corneal epithelium integrity recovery t-ime, foreign body sensation disappeared time, the occurrence of pterygium recurren-ce rate, Tear break-up time(BUT), Schirmer I test and complications were observed. The patients were followed up 6~24mo. Results: In the patients undergone pteryg ium simple resection, 10 eyes(40%) of Uighur and 8 eyes(27.59%) of Han occurred symblepharon. In the patients received pterygium excision combined with limbal stem cell transplantation, 2 eyes(8.88%) of Uighur and 1 eye(3.84%) of Han recurr-ed. During 6~24mo of follow-up, Chi-square test was used to compare the recurre-nce rate between two groups. And there was statistical significance(2?Uighur=7.02,2?Han=8.04, P<0.05). In two groups, there was no statistical significance(2?simple=0.18,2?combine=0.40,P>0.05). Conclusion: Whether it is for Uighur or Han, pterygiu m excision combined with limbal stem cell transplantation has lower pterygium rec ur-rence than pterygium simple resection, it is more appropriate to local residents.
