Objective: To investigate the skull base chondrosarcomas diagnosis, microsurgical treatment, summarize the experience of surgical treatment of skull base chondrosarcomas and the prognosis were analyzed. Methods: The clinical data of 11 cases of skull base chondrosarcoma confirmed by pathology from April 2009 to October 2015 were analyzed retrospectively. The follow-up period ranged from 8 to 67 months. The surgical approach include: subtemporal approach(4 cases), presigmoid approach(2 cases), additional lateral approach(3 cases), frontotemporal approach(2 cases). Results: On 4 cases of imaging at the same time appear linear calcification or arc calcification and honeycomb reinforcement. The total resection in 6 cases, subtotal resection in 3 cases, partial resection in 2 cases. Tumor recurrence was recorded 4 cases, 3 cases died. Conclusion: Chondrosarcoma has no characteristic clinical manifestation and imaging features are not typical, easily misdiagnosed. linear calcification or arc calcification on CT and honeycomb reinforced on enhanced MRI existing at the same time, which prompts to diagnosis chondrosarcoma of skull base. Maximal safe microsurgical resection is considered the first-line management for intracranial chondrosarcoma. Postoperative radiotherapy combined with general condition of patients to choose. Most patients prognosis is good, some patients with poor prognosis, further research should continue to improve long-term prognosis.
