ABSTRACT We detected the occurrence and the resistance to Ampicillin Trihydrate of fecal bacteria in urban surface water of Zhengzhou. Meanwhile, we detected the resistance spectrums to various antibiotics of Escherichia coli strain which extracted from the surface water and the survival conditions of ge ne engineering strain in the samples of surface water.The concentration of total bacterial count is between 106 to 108 CFU·L-1 in urban surface water of Zhengzhou, the concentration of coliforms and thermot olerant coliforms is between 103 to 106 MPN·L-1, the concentration of Escherich ia coli is between 103 to 106 MPN-L"1. The propotion of bacterial strain with a mpicillin resistence is between 8.12%~65.75% in the total bacterial count, and 9.89%~80.55%,6.97%-71.43%,1.8%~100% in coliforms, thermotolerant colifor ms and escherichia coli. The analysis of the concentration of bacteria in differe nts seasons in Jinshui river and Dongfeng canal reflected that the indicator bac teria were relatively high in autumn except Escherichia coli, and the concentrat ion of coliforms and thermotolerant coliforms were relatively higher in spring t han another seasons. The concentration of Escherichia coli was in a high fluct uation.After the analysis of concentrations of bacteria in differnt rivers, we founded that the concentrations of bacteria from different areas in the waters were also inequality. There are a large distance between the downtown with Dongfeng canal and Xionger river. There was a slight discrease of the concentration of bacteria in the two rivers when they went through the downtown. But the concentration of bacteria in the downstream of Jinshui river was obciously higher than which in the upstream when it went through the dowmtown, while the Jinshui river is located in the downtowm area.The analysis results of the resistance spectrum of the Escherichia coli which extrated from the water samples of Jinshui river relected that some about 76.27% of the Escherichia coli had a resistance to more than 5 antibiotics and 93.22% of the bacterial strains had a resistance to Penicillin G Sodium salt. Showing that half propotions of Escherichia coli from the water of Jinshui river had a resistance to more than 5 antibiotics, means that mostly Escherichia coli in Jinshui river had a resistance to the common antibiotics, might brought hazard to humans for a long time contact with people.The research of the survival condition of genetically engineered bacterium in water samples indicated that it was still at a high concentration of 106 CFU·mL-1 at the room temperature while the initial concentration of bacteria was 10 CFU·mL-1. The results indicated that the survival condition of genetically engineered bacterium in water samples of Dongfeng canal is better than which in tap water. Illustrating that if there was a high concentration of genetically engineered bacterium in surface water, the long time they survived, the more ecological risk they brought.
