Clinical Outcomes Of Perceptual Learning Based On Cloud Services For The Treatment Of Amblyopia On Visual Acuity And Stereopsis

Background Amblyopia is a developmental disorder of spatial vision that results in both monocular and binocular deficits.There are many treatment for amblyopia,for example,refractive correction, occlusion therapy, drug treatment and so on.Although traditional treatment is proved effective as a treatment for amblyopia,it just focuse on monocular training.The study of treatment in restoring binocular function, especially stereopsis is rare.Objective To evaluate the effects of perceptual learning based on cloud services in improving stereopsis and visual acuity in amblyopia and compared with traditional combined training, to investigate superior treatment in treating amblyopia.Methods 107 amblyopes(178 eyes) aged 5-18 were recruited from the outpatient department and divided into two groups. Subjects in treatment group were trained with the perceptual learning based on cloud services, while control group were received a training regimen of traditional combined training. The efficacy was estimated by the improvement of stereopsis and visual acuity between pretreatment and posttreatment.Results We found that training substantially improved visual acuity in the amblyopic eyes of all the observers in two Groups, but the total effective rate of visual acuity after training in treatment group was more outstanding than that in control group(P<0.05). The mean stereopsis of the amblyopic eyes with perceptual learning based on cloud services improved from 273±95″to 127±53″, but in the group with traditional training, the mean stereopsis of the amblyopic eyes changed from 311±103″to 174±67″. The improvement of stereopsis of treatment group was higher than that of control group(P<0.05).Conclusions Both perceptual learning based on cloud services and traditional combined training can improve stereopsis and visual acuity in amblyopia.Perceptual learning based on cloud services can be considered as an alternative to conventional treatment. It is especially appropriate for teenaged patients with amblyopia who show poor compliance in traditional combined training.
