Purpose:To explore the correlation about the Apo E gene polymorphism, the pathogenesis of temporal lobe epilepsy for the han population in north China, and cognitive dysfunction after the onset of temporal lobe epilepsy. Methods:Collected from December 2014 to March 2016,69 cases of patients with temporal lobe epilepsy in the Department of internal medicine, No.1 Hospital of Jilin University, as the experimental group, all patients underwent EEG, head CT or head MRI and other related tests. At the same time, 48 healthy control subjects were collected as control group. Using Wechsler Intelligence Scale For Adult–Chinese Revised, WAIS-RC, we have evaluated the cognitive function and measured the Apo E gene type in the two group members. Also we have collected basic information about gender, age, height, weight, nationality, and clinical information such as epilepsy onset age, seizure frequency, Course of the disease, antiepileptic treatment process and related adverse reactions etc. Using statistical methods we analyze the correlation about Apo E gene, temporal lobe epilepsy and cognitive function. Results:(1) Distributions of age and gender are not significant in patients with temporal lobe epilepsy.(2) Apo E gene has no correlation with sex, age, onset age, course of disease, seizure frequency and body mass index.(3) Apo E epsilon 2, 3 and 4 gene are related to the northern TLE patients. And Apo E epsilon 2 and epsilon 4 gene are risk factors of TLE, while epsilon 3 is a protective factor.(4) Apo E type 2, 3, type 3, 4, type 2, 4 and type 3, 3 are related to cognitive impairment in patients with temporal lobe epilepsy in North china. Apo E gene type 2, 4 is a risk factor, while gene type 2, 3, type 3, 4, type 3, 3 are protective factors.(5) Apo E type 2, 3 and type 3, 4 are related to cognitive impairment in patients with temporal lobe epilepsy in North China. Apo E gene type 2, 3 is a risk factor, while gene type 3, 4 is a protective factor. Conclusion:(1) There is a correlation between Apo E gene polymorphism and TLE patients in North China. Apo E epsilon 2, epsilon 4 and type 2, 4 are risk factors of TLE, while epsilon 3, type 2,3, type 3,4 and type 3,3 are protective factors.(2) There is a correlation between Apo E gene polymorphism and cognitive impairment in patients with temporal lobe epilepsy in North China. Apo E type 2,3 is a risk factor, while type 3,4 is a protective factor.(3) Apo E gene provides a theoretical basis for us to explore the pathogenesis of epilepsy and look for new molecular targets in the treatment of epilepsy.
