Objective:To demonstrate long-term effectiveness of acupuncture for migraine without aura (MWoA), and special attention will be paid to comparison with the placebo effect.Methods:This trial is a multicenter,prospective,pragmatic randomized controlled clinical trail.81 patients with MWoA in ChongQing were randomly assigned to three groups. Patient in the individualized acupoint group will be treated with individualized acupuncture point prescriptions. The non-acupoint control group will treated by needles at four bilateral non-points. The waiting-list control group without any medical treatment, but instead will receive 20 regular acupuncture treatments for free after 24 weeks.Each group will receive 20 weeks of follow-up after their treatments in four weeks. We will collecting the relevant data befor randomization, and the 4th,8th,12th,16th,20th,24th week after randomization. Finally,we compared according to the migraine frequency and the number of days in patients’ headache diary, and self-rating anxiety scale (SAS).Results:1. Each period(especially the 16th) after the 8th week, the magraine frequency and the number of days compared with baseline period, there were significant differences(P <0.05) in the individualized acupoint group.2. After the 8th,12th,16th,20th,24th week, there were significant differences(P< 0.05) between the individualized acupoint group and the non-acupoint control group;And there were significant differences(P<0.05) between the non-acupoint control group and the waiting-list control group.3. The SAS scores of the individualized acupoint group after all courses of treatment that compared with the baseline period, there was significant difference (P<0.05); The SAS scores of the non-acupoint control group and the waiting-list control group showed no significant difference (P>0.05).Conclusion:1. Acupuncture can improve the frequency and the number of days when migraine attacks, and have a long-term effect(20 weeks of follow-up in this study).2. There was a placebo effect in terms of migraine treated by acupuncture.3. During the therapy sessions and the 20 weeks of follow-up without any unexpected events.
