| Bone abnormalities are involved in many birth defects and adult skeletal diseases that threaten human health. Many pathogenesis of bone disease are not fully understood yet. As an important vertebrate tissue type, cartilage joins in formation of bone and bone diseases. To explore the regulator of chondrocytes development will uncover a new sight in disease prevention and treatment. The zebrafish (Danio rerio), due to the fast development and a human being hyaline cartilage-like organization of craniofacial cartilage, makes it a particularly model for studies on human skeletal development and disease with unknown pathogenesis. In this review, we summarize the zebrafish mutants which impact of chondrocyte formation by describing gene mutant, gene function, expression, signaling pathway regulation and mutant phenotypes with their molecular mechanism, at last we will discuss applications of zebrafish in humans skeletal system diseases. |
