This research is aimed to systematically collect ancient and modern, Chinese and foreign documents about insomnia disorder,explain the etiology,pathogenesis,diagnosis and treatment methods for insomnia disorder,summarize and compare knowledge and experience on insomnia in both Chinese and western medicine field. Explain clinical effectiveness of modified treatment for insomnia caused by spleen depression with the spleen tranquilizing method,and compare with western medicines like antidepressants or Sedative hypnotics. TCM diagnostic criteria is based on<New type Chinese traditional medicine clinical research guiding principles>(2002)and western medicine diagnostic criteria is based on nonorganic insomnia (F51.0) as in<Clinical descriptions and diagnostic key points on ICD-10 mental and behavioral disorder classification> 80 patients with insomnia caused by spleen depression was picked,40 of them were divided into treatment group,and took Guizhi Shaoyao Decoction(TCM soup with flexible ingredients)treatment; the other 40 of them were divided into control group,and took escitalopram and diazepam tablets treatment. According to the clinical research results,the effective rate of the treatment group was 82.5%and that of the control group was 80.0%.The two groups showed no significant difference (P>0.05), this result has proved that Guizhi Shaoyao Decoction treatment (with flexible ingredients) could reduce spleen depression and cure insomnia. The curative effect is almost the same as escitalopram and diazepam tablets treatment,and shows no obvious toxic side effects.
