Objective To investigate the expression of e IF-4A in difference cervical tissues and correlate the results of cervical cancer with clinicopathological features. Methods We employed the expression of e IF-4A m RNA and protein in normal cervical tissue(N), low-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia(CINⅠ),high-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia(CINⅡ-Ⅲ) and cervical cancer(CA) by quantitative real-time PCR and western-blot analysis. Results The expression of e IF-4A m RNA was significantly increased from the groups of normal cervical tissue(N), CINⅠ, CINⅡ-Ⅲ to CA(F=11.07,P<0.05). Between N and CINⅠ、 between N and CINⅡ-Ⅲ 、between N and CA、between CINⅠ and CA、between CINⅡ-Ⅲ and CA,the differences were significant(t=5.77、6.04、10.23、8.56、9.02, all P<0.05). The expression of e IF-4A protrein was significantly increased from the groups of normal cervical tissue(N), CINⅠ, CINⅡ-Ⅲ to CA(F=14.17,P<0.05). Between N and CINⅡ-Ⅲ 、between N and CA、between CINⅠ and CA, the differences were significant(t=5.99、6.74、5.84,all P<0.05). e IF-4A m RNA and protein expression in cervical cancer was significantly correlated with the histological grade and lymphatic metastasis(F=20.03、19.77,t=7.99、5.38, all P<0.05), while not with the different surgical pathologic stages and histopathological types(t=0.98、0.77、1.03、0.93,all P>0.05).Conclusion The differdent expression of e IF-4A indicates that e IF-4A plays a certain role in the oncogenesis and malignant progression of cervical cancer. The relationship of e IF-4A expression and its clinicopathological features suggests its potential utility as a prognostic biomaker.
