Objective: To evaluate correlations between hypoglycemia, especially recurrent hypoglycemia in Type 2 diabetes and cognitive function. Methods: Montreal Cognitive Assessments(MOCA) was conducted for 133 patients with Type II diabetes. All patients were divided into two groups(normal cognition group and impaired cognitive function group): 31 people with normal cognition(score ≥26) and 102 patients with impaired cognitive function(score <26). Compared social factors and physiological indicators including age, education level, progress of Type II diabetes, hypoglycemia and hypertension, Body Mass Index(BMI), diabetic complication, level of cholesterols and triglycerides. Data were analyzed by using logistic regression method.Results:(1) Compared to the impaired cognitive function group, the patients with normal cognitive function exhibited decreasing BMI and hyperlipidemia(cholesterols and triglycerides), lower frequency of hypoglycemia, younger in age, shorter course of diabetes, declining morbidity for diabetic complication. In contrast and higher education level.(2)Logistic regression analysis: age( OR : 0.910, 95%C.I. :0.833-0.994),course of diabetes(OR:0.738,95%C.I.:0.577-0.944),BMI(OR:0.694,95%C.I.:0.482-0.999),diabetic complication.(OR:0.049,95%C.I.:0.005-0.457),frequency of hypoglycemia(OR:0.058,95%C.I.:0.008-0.411),TC(OR:0.378,95%C.I.:0.155-0.926),TG(OR:0.267,95%C.I.:0.087-0.817), education level(OR:1.643,95%C.I.:1.142-2.363)Conclusion: frequency of hypoglycemia, diabetic complication, progress of diabetes, age,BMI and hyperlipidemia are considered as risk factors causing impaired cognitive function, among them hypoglycemia, diabetic complication played key role of cognitive disorder. Besides education level is protective factor.
