Dental pulp is the only soft tissue which has the ability to provide nutrients and to form dentin. Calcium hydroxide and Mineral trioxide aggregate are widely used for pulpal treatments. While, pulp capping materials which are used in both study and clinical are rarely discussed. Therefore, to develop new pulp capping materials with suitable physicochemical properties and the ability which can induce odontogenic differentiation and dentin formation received extensive attention these days. Bioactive molecule such as growth factors, play an important role on dental pulp-dentin repairing, but bioactive macromolecules can only exist in vivo for a short time. This study focuses on the application of micro/nano bioactive glass for dental pulp repair. There are two parts in this study, the first part is to develop a pulp capping material based on bioactive glasses, and the second part is the preparation and characterization of mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticle for delivery.Bioactive glass spheres with different components were synthesized by sol-gels method combining template technology via adjusting the proportion of silicon, calcium, phosphorous source. The largest content of CaO in this material is about 15%. The non bridge oxygen of the silicon oxygen network and the apatite-forming ability increased with the content proportion of CaO and P2O5.Bioglass pulp capping materials were synthetized by mixing phosphate buffer solution with a certain component bioactive glass spheres. K3CaH(PO4)2 and hydroxyapatite grew between bioglass spheres as soon as they were mixed with phosphate buffer solution. And K3CaH(PO4)2 transferred into hydroxyapatite during maintenance. The compressive strength, water dispersion resistance and the degradation properties of the bioglass pulp capping material can be improve by adding sodium alginate in the phosphate buffer solution. Two types of mesoporous bioactive glasses including spherical mesoporous bioactive glasses with radial mesostructure and pineal mesoporous bioactive glasses with lamellar mesostructure have been successfully synthesized through a novel sacrificial liquid template method in sol-gels process under different reaction condition. Aqueous ammonia was added as template corrodent and hydrolysis catalyst for bioglass sol. The size and the mesostructure of mesoporous bioactive glasses could be tuned by changing the aqueous ammonia concentration. This material used as a Bocine serum albumin carrier showed that two kinds of the nanoparticle both had excellent ability of protein adsorption and release capacity due to their high specific surface area and pore volume, which may be a good candidate as therapeutic molecules carriers.
