Objectives Follow-up of the clinical outcome of surgical treatment on patients with gluteal muscle contracture(GMC), evaluate the relevant factors that influence the postoperative recovery of the patients. Methods Screen 46 cases of gluteal muscle contracture(GMC) for surgical treatment(including 25 males and 21 females, aged 7~21, with an average age of 12.8) in the orthopedic department of Affiliated Hospital of Hebei United University from January2002 to June 2005. All of the studied patients suffer a two-side symptom for 4~15 years(averagely 11.6 years). GMC patients were classified according to gender, age, disease course and clinical classification. Making follow-up plan and content, telephone interviews, then filled in the questionnaires, summarized and analyzed the results. The ultimate aim is to assess the long-term therapeutic effect of patients with gluteal muscle contracture, and analyze the involved factors on functional recovery. Results 1 46 cases of GMC patients received surgical treatment from January 2002 to June 2005. 39 cases of patients met the follow-up. According to the effective standard of excellent, good, better and poor, the efficiency of 32 cases were excellent, 6 cases good,1cases better and 0 case poor. 2 GMC patients’ recovery results of the gender group: Male group: 18 cases were excellent, 3 cases good, 1 case better and 0 case poor. Female group:14 cases were excellent, 3 cases good, 0 case better and 0 case poor. 3 GMC patients’ recovery results of the age group: Group <15: Excellent: 18 cases, Good: 1 case, Better: 0cases. Group≥15: Excellent: 14 cases, Good: 5 cases, Better: 1 case. 4 GMC patients’ recovery results of course group : ≤5 years group: Excellent: 20 cases, Good: 1 case,Better: 0 cases.>5 years group: Excellent: 12 cases, Good: 5 case, Better: 1 case. 5 GMC patients’ recovery results of clinical classification group: slight group: Excellent: 20 cases,Good: 1 case, Better: 0 cases. Middle and severe group: Excellent: 12 cases, Good: 5 case,Better: 1 case. Conclusions 1 According to the effective standard, the excellent and good rate was97.4%, function of gait and hip joint was restored well. 2 The release lengthening operation of gluteal muscle contracture strips( GMCS) or combine iliotibial tract lengthening is important treatment method of gluteus contracture. Its operation is handy and GMC patients are quite satisfied with the result. 3 There was no significant difference between the gender groups. Therefore, gender is not a factor of postoperative recovery. 4There is notable difference of age, course and clinical classification in GMC patients. Age,course and clinical classification are the major factors of postoperative recovery.
