Known as shizhu,shizhuzi and traditional folk medicine herb in Southern China,Pouzolzia zeylanica(L.) Benn. Var. microphylla(Wedd.)W.T.Wang,with the effects of reducing inflammation and corruption pus, are used for the treatment of boils, syphilis and tuberculosis.Earlier studies on the chemical composition and pharmacological of Pouzolzia zeylanica reported the AcOEt-soluble portion from a 95% EtOH extract of the aerial parts of Pouzolzia zeylanica was one of the effective portion of anti-inflammatory and analgesic. Four new norlignans from the AcOEt-soluble portion reported have a good anti-inflammatory activity by stimulating the mouse peritoneal macrophages in vitro with lipopolysaccharide(LPS). Forthe carbuncle, syphilis. Carry-ing out the research about Chemical ingredient ofactive parts,and seeking new lignan,equaling to the Ethyl acetate parts of Pouzolzia zeylanica(L.) Benn. Var. microphylla(Wedd.)W.T.Wang,which is based on the previous studies that concludes in vivo and in vitro anti-inflammatory effects of pharmacological research.This paper summarizes the phytochemical and pharmacological study of Pouzolzia and reviewed the norlignans’ structure,physical and chemical properties,biological activity and characteristics of distribution and existing forms in plants, so that a better resceach can be achieved.Pouzolzia zeylanica(L.) Benn. Var. microphylla(Wedd.)W.T.Wang was extracted in turn by petroleumether and ethyl acetate, and then divided the two parts of the extraction. 13 compounds were isolated,and 11 compounds were identified by all kinds of column chromatography methods and pectroscopy technologies as:1,4-dihydroxy-3-(3,5-dihydroxy-phenyl)-2-[4-hydroxy-3-methoxy-phenyl-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxy-Benzyll)]-butane(1),1,4-dihydroxy-3-(3,5-dihydroxy-phenyl)-2-[4-hydro xy-3-methoxy-phenyl-(4-hydroxy-3,5-dimethoxy-Benzyll)]-butane(2),1,4-dihydroxy-3-(3,5-dihydroxy-phenyl)-2-[4-hydroxy-3-methoxy-phenyl-(4-hydroxy-3,4,5-trimetho xy-Benzyll)]-butane(3),4-hydroxy-3-(3,5-dihydroxy-phenyl)-2-[4-hydroxy-3-methoxy-phenyl-(4-hydroxy-3,5-dimethoxy-Benzyll)]-1-ethylbutyrate(4),1-hydroxy-3-(3,5-dih ydroxy-phenyl)-2-[4-hydroxy-3-methoxy-phenyl-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxy-Benzyll)]-4-ethylbutyrate(5),1-hydroxy-3-(3,5-dihydroxy-phenyl)-2-[4-hydroxy-3-methoxy-pheny l-(4-hydroxy-3,5-dimethoxy-Benzyll)]-4-ethyl butyrate(6),Uracil(7),Indole-3-carboxylic acid(8),Phthalic acid bis-(2-ethyl-heptyl)ester(9),DBP(10),6-hydroxystigmast-4-en-3-one(11).There were six lignans,two alkaloids,one sterols and two aromatic esters obtained from Pouzolzia zeylanica(L.) Benn. Var. microphylla(Wedd.)W.T.Wang.Compounds 1 to 6 are new compounds. All themwere isolated from this genus firstly.Finally, the paper summarizes the structural characteristics and spectral characteristics of norlignans form Pouzolzia zeylanica(L.) Benn. Var. microphylla(Wedd.)W.T.Wang, enriching chemstry library of Pouzolzia zeylanica(L.) Benn. Var. microphylla(Wedd.)W.T.Wang., and laying a foundation of further study on structure-activity relationship of norlignans.
