Objective1. Understand the status of "hepatitis B patients family members" actively getting hepatitis B vaccine in Beilun district of Ningbo city2. Explore the main influencing factors of hepatitis B vaccine.3. Understand the awareness and source of knowledge on hepatitis B, and understand the attitude of contacting hepatitis B patients or carriers.MethodsAll data in this study were from Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). we selected222individuals aged15-69years as exposure group. exposures were all family members of patients with chronic hepatitis B diagnosed from June2012to June2013in Beilun District. The random sampling method was used to select414residents aged15-69years in nine streets of Beilun District as control group. Self-designed questionnaire, face-to-face and telephone interview was undertaken to understand the status of hepatitis B vaccine, awareness of hepatitis B related knowledge and attitude to hepatitis B patients by a case-control study design. We also used Logistic regression to explore the influence factors of hepatitis B vaccination. ResultsA total of636people were enrolled in this study. There were339women (53.30%) and297men (46.70%)(P=0.05). The age between exposure group and control group was comparable. The hepatitis b patients’ families had a lower education level than controls. Patients’ families had a higher proportion of rural individuals than control group (68.0%vs.58.0%).1. Status of active vaccination of "hepatitis B patients family members" in Beilun DistrictThe adult hepatitis B vaccine rate of the exposure group (41.89%) were significantly higher than that of the control group (34.30%). The exposure group were more inclined to detect antibody after getting hepatitis B vaccine (62.50%vs.28.25%). There was no statistically significant difference on hepatitis B vaccine types when parents chosen for children.2. The comprehensive analysis of the main factors influencing the hepatitis B vaccineThe percentage of active vaccination among families of patients with chronic hepatitis B was79.57%. And the control group had45.77%individuals getting active vaccination due to complying with immunization program. For the cause of refusing vaccination,25.0%of families of patients with chronic hepatitis B did not think hepatitis B could. Among the control group,15.4%individuals contacted with hepatitis B patients or had not heard of hepatitis B. Using logistic regression model, we found that Hepatitis B vaccination rate of the control group was lower than that of the exposure group. Hepatitis B vaccination rate was decreasing with age, but increasing with education level. Students and personnel engaged in commercial transportation services had a higher rate of hepatitis B vaccination.3. The awareness and source of related knowledge about hepatitis b, and attitude of contacting hepatitis B patients/carriers The percentage of awareness of hepatitis B transmission among hepatitis B patients family members was significantly higher than that among the control group (63.51%vs.60.36%). Hepatitis B related knowledge mainly came from mass media network or television, etc. There was a higher rate of knowing nothing and not caring about hep B among the control group (12.80%).Exposure to social public discrimination against hepatitis B carriers chose "no", in the patient’s family and control the crowd than were the highest, and patients’ families is significantly higher than the control group, respectively (76.13%,50.24%).ConclusionHepatitis B vaccine rate among adults in Beilun District was less than40%. There was a low awareness of hepatitis B transmission knowledge. But the patients’ families had a higher rate of vaccination intention and antibody testing will.Factors influencing the subjects of the hepatitis B vaccination included the nature of the investigation (exposures and controls), age, occupation and education level. The main reason for family members of patients to decline hepatitis B vaccine was that they did not believe that hepatitis B could infect. Unvaccinated main influencing factors for the control group was no thought, and no concept for Chinese adults to get hepatitis B vaccine. Mass media network or TV was the main sources of hepatitis B related knowledge. We should increase the mass media publicity, and focus on strengthening hepatitis B vaccine among adults infected family members.
