Objective To investigate the curative effect and the hematologic toxicity and side effects such as radioactive enteritis and cystitis of cervical carcinoma treated by Fufangbanmao Capsules combined with intensity-modulated radiation therapy and 192 Ir intracavitary brachytherapy. By testing cellular and humoral immune function of patients before and after treatment and comparing related indicators, we aim to provide a basis for enhancing efficacy and reducing toxicity of Fufangbanmao Capsules in the radiotherapy of cervical cancer. Methods A total of 70 Patients with cervical carcinoma, who were admitted to Department of oncology Shiyan People’s Hospital from March 2012 to September 2014, were divided into two groups randomly. The control group(n=35) undergone the whole pelvic intensity-modulated radiation therapy(IMRT) with high-dose-rate intracavitary brachytherapy. After 3 to 4 weeks of 6MVX line-intensity-modulated radiation therapy(GTVnd60Gy/25 F, CTV45Gy-50Gy/25 F, 5 times a week), intracavitary brachytherapy followed by adopting WD-HDR as breach-loading machine. The radioactive source was 192 Ir. Patients accepted afterloading irradiation 5 times, one time a week and 6Gy for each time. There was no external irradiation on the treatment day. The total dose of reference point A was 85-95 Gy, and radiation dose were adjustedaccording to the stage and the size of tumors. On the basis of same radiotherapy of the control group, the treatment group(n=35),took Fufangbanmao Capsules orally for 8weeks from the day accepting radiotherapy and 2 times a day(0.75 g for each time). KPS scores were compared intra-group and inter-group before the treatment and one week after the treatment to evaluate influences of two therapies on the quality of life. All admitted patients should be taken gynecological examination, abdominal-pelvic color ultrasonography and pelvic MRI before radiation therapy to know about tumors. One month and 3 months after the radiation, gynecological examination, abdominal pelvic color ultrasonography and pelvic MRI were taken to observe the short-term curative effect of tumors. Levels of acute radioactive enteritis, acute radioactive cystitis and hematologic toxicity were evaluated after therapy according to clinical symptoms and blood routine. All patients were phlebotomized 2ml on an empty stomach on the morning before starting the treatment to detect blood immunology related indicators. The same method was used to detect blood immunology indicators after one week treatment. The blood immunology indicators between the two groups and the changes of the indicators were compared before and after treatment in each group. The flow cytometry instrument was used to test the sub T cells(CD3+, CD3+CD4+and CD3+CD8+) and sub NK cells(CD3-CD56+). The ELISA double sandwich method was adopted to detect the level of interleukin-6. The data were analyzed with SPSS17.0 statistical software(SPSS, Chicago, IL, USA).Results The effective rate of the two groups were 94.28% and 74.29%, The treatment group was higher than control group(P<0.05). The KPS scores comparison between the two group had no significance before the treatment(P>0.05), but after the treatment, the KPS scores of the treatment group were significantly higher than that of the control group(P<0.05). And the KPSscores of the treatment increased obviously after the treatment(P<0.05), while the control group decreased(P<0.05). The levels of CD3+, CD3+CD4+ and IL-6 in the treatment group increased obviously after the treatment(P<0.05), while the levels of CD3+ and CD3+CD8+ in the control group decreased(P<0.05) and the level of IL-6 increased significantly(P<0.05). There was no difference in the levels change of CD3+, CD3+CD4+, CD3+CD8+, CD3-CD56+ and IL-6 between the two groups before the treatment(P>0.05). After the treatment, the CD3+, CD3+CD4+, CD3+CD8+ and CD3-CD56+ level of the treatment group were higher than that of the control group, while the level of IL-6 was lower(P<0.05), the toxic effect of the two groups were also compared, which showed that the degrees of acute radioactive enteritis, acute radioactive cystitis and hematologic toxicity in the treatment group were lower than that in the control group,(P<0.05). It had statistical significance for the improvement of night sweats, nausea and vomiting, loss of appetite, spiritlessness and lack of power, insomnia and dizziness, soreness and weakness of waist and knees(P<0.05).Conclusions Compared with curing cervical cancer only by IMRT and intracavitary brachytherapy radiotherapy, treatment group who also took Fufangbanmao capsules orally has better treatment effect, but is lower in cutting the rate of occurence of adverse reaction. After adding Fufangbanmao capsules, the karonfsky of the patients increased, symptoms improved and the quality of life enhanced. Combine with Fufangbanmao capsules in curing cervical cancer is useful for effect-enhancing and toxicity-reducing.
