[Objective] Analysis different altitudes and seasons in Yunnan province of SLE (systemic lupus erythematosus) patients with clinical manifestations, disease activities and the relationship between them.[Methods] Retrospective analysis the medical records inpatients from January 2002 to December 2012. Statistical analysis the correlations between SLE activity indices and different altitudes as also the different seasons, such as clinical manifestations and laboratory findings.[Result] 1. In-patients lived at the altitude from 553m to 3500m. Age at onset for SLE patients at high altitudes was significantly younger than that at low and moderate altitudes. With increasing alltitude, the younger SLE patients were admitted to hospital.2. Patients at high altitudes had shorter duration from disease onset to admission than those at moderate altitudes.3. Incidence of Sm antibodies-positive and creatinine for resident patients at high altitudes was higher than that at moderate altitudes. Hemoglobin level, red blood cell and platelet counts at high altitudes were significantly lower than those at low altitudes.4. Total SLEDAI score has no significant difference with altitude change.5. We found increasing trends of immunological and renal activities in inactive patients were correlated with elevated altitudes.6. CNS damage in active patients showed the tendency of increasing with the rise of elevation; while arthritis scores in active patients showed the tendency of decreasing with the rise of elevation.7. Different seasonal in-patients onset and admission age of SLE patients in Winter were significantly older than that in Spring, Summer and Autumn.8. We found decreasing trends of immunological activities in inactive patients:Spring, Autumn, Summer, and Winter.9. We also found decreasing trends of renal activities in active patients:Winter, Summer, Autumn and Spring.[Conclusion] Demographic characteristic, clinical features, laboratory tests and activity of main organs in SLE are influenced by altitudes and seasons.
