Abstract/Summary:
Objective:This study was to investigate the level of doctors and nurses’knowledge of palliative care who worked in first-class hospitals in Nanjing and to detect the influencing factors of the score of this scale. We aimed to provide the theoretical basis for the establishment and development of palliative care model in Nanjing. Methods:A total of 384 doctors and nurses were included. They were surveyed with palliative care knowledge questionnaire (the palliative care quiz for nursing, PCQN), which was developed by Professor ROSS, Ottawa, Canada. All data collected were analyzed with SPSS 19.0. The reliability and validity were evaluated. Data was showed in frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation. We used univariate and multivariate linear regression analysis to find the influencing factors of the scores of the scale.Results:61.2% of the participants never heard about the palliative care and 44.79% of them talked with their patients about the topic of death. The mean score of the scale was 8.58±2.34. And the highest and lowest score was 14 and 1, respectively. The coefficient of Cronbach’s a was o.65. The Multiple linear regression analysis showed that occupation (β=0.136, P=0.007)、 age (β=0.135, P=0.010). knowledge of palliative care (β=0.112, P=0.031) and the experience of discussing with patients about death (β=0.154, P=0.005) were influencing factors. Conclusion:The level of doctors and nurses’knowledge of palliative care in Nanjing was relatively low, so we need to strengthen in-service staff, especially nurses training.
