ObjectiveHepatoid adenocarcinoma, an extrahepatic tumor, has extremely morphological similarities to hepatocellular carcinoma, which has been reported in gastrointestinal tract organs, rectal, gallbladder, lung, ovary, urinary bladder. Hepatoid adenocarcinoma of the stomach (GHAC) is a rare variant of gastric cancer, charactered by aggressive behavior and extremely poor prognosis. Correct diagnosis depends on clinicopathologic and immunohistochemistry study.MethodsRetrospectively analyze the clinical, histopathology, immunohistochemical, treatment and prognosis features of9cases of GHAC who were treated in the first affiliated hospital of Zhejiang University from January2009to December2013.The patients were followed up from7months to40months (Median:25months). ResultsAll patients underwent radical gastrectomy, of whom, stage I and II was in one patient respectively, stage III in7patients. Elevated serum AFP was found in8cases. Up to now, only one patient died, four patients are found to have liver metastases, one lung metastasis, and four patients are still disease-free.ConclusionsRelatively longer survivals need accurate diagnosis at an earlier stage and active multimodality treatment, including radical gastrectomy and adjuvant chemotherapy.
