The Observation Of Percutaneous Kyphoplasty Connected With Xianlinggubao Capsule For The Recent Efficacy Of Thoracic And Lumbar Vertebral Compression Fractures

ObjectiveIn this research, osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture (OVCF) patients were treated by percutaneous kyphoplasty(PKP) and Xianlinggubao Capsule. This research explored the efficacy of using Xianlinggubao Capsule after having PKP and evaluated the efficacy according to the score of Visual analogue scale (VAS), Oswesty disability index (ODI) and the height of vertebral restoration.MethodsThis research was a retrospective analysis on collection of sixty-four OVCF patients and four patients were eliminated in Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from March2012to December2013.The patients were divided into3groups according to medical records and other data. Each group was treated by different method. Group A were treated by PKP, Xianlinggubao Capsule and functional exercise. Group B were treated by PKP and functional exercise. Group C were treated by Xianlinggubao Capsule and functional exercise. The patients were all treated for one month and followed up for3months. At the time of one week, one month, three months after treatment and before treatment, we compared the score of VAS and ODI and the height of vertebral restoration in each group.ResultsGroup A and B patients’ surgery were all successful. There was no cement leakage and radicular symptom, no adjacent vertebral fracture during the three month follow-up time. The radiograph showed that the cement was dispersed well.Fist, about the VAS, compared the VAS of three group at the time of one week, one month and three month after the treatment, the P value were0.00,0.00and0.014. The difference of VAS had statistically significant. Compared the VAS of Group A and B, Group A and C, Group B and C at the time of one week, one month and three month after the treatment, it showed that the effect of pain relief of PKP was better than conservative treatment at the time of one week and one month after the treatment. And the effect of pain relief of PKP in group A was the best at the time of three month after the treatment.Second, about the ODI, compared the ODI of three group at the time of one week, one month and three month after the treatment, the P value were0.00,0.00and0.01. The difference of ODI had statistically significant. Compared the VAS of Group A and B, Group A and C, Group B and C at the time of one week, one month and three month after the treatment, it showed that the ability of waist recovery activities of group A and B was better than Group C at the time of one week and one month after the treatment. And the ability of waist recovery activities of Group A and C was better than Group B at the time of three month after the treatment.Third, one week and one month after the treatment, compared the height of vertebral restoration between group A and B, the P value was more than0.05.It had no statistically significant. Three month after the treatment, compared the height of vertebral restoration between group A and B, the P value was more than0.05. It had statistically significant. It showed that the effect of maintaining the vertebral height of group A was better than Group B.ConclusionThe analgesic effect of PKP for OVCF patients was obvious. The treatment of PKP could restore the vertebral height and improve kyphosis. PKP connected with Xianlinggubao Capsule for three month could get better efficacy. So PKP connected with Xianlinggubao Capsule could get better efficacy than just PKP. The treatment of Xianlinggubao Capsule with functional exercise needed a long time to relieve pain. But if the patient strengthened functional exercise, it was also a cheap and safe treatment method.
