Objective:To analyze the clinical features and the progress of microsurgical management of conus medullairs intramedullary tumor.Materials and methods:Retrospective analysis the patients of conus medullairs intramedullary tumor treated in2nd Affiated Hospital of Zhejiang University from December2010to November2013, summarize the epidemiological character、clinical symptom、pathology、treatment and outcome.Results:Of the24patients, the ratio of male and female was1:1.18(11males,13females). The onset age ranged from22to71years old, with the average age of46.58±14.97years. The onset course ranged from1month to20years (3years, average). The main symptoms included pain in20cases, sensory disorder in12cases, motor disorder in5cases and urine dysfunction in4cases. All patients were treated by microsurgery. The pathology showed ependymoma was8cases(33.33%), secondly schwannoma was5cases(20.83%), arachnoid cyst4cases, lipomyoma2cases, cavernous hemangioma、hemangioblastoma、neuroinoma、astrocytes glioma and malignant lymphoma each was1case. Followed-up from3months to3years,18cases were improved(77.78%),4cases were steady and2cases were death. Conclusion:Pain and sensory disorder are the main symptoms of conus medullairs intramedullary tumor, often accompanied with urine dysfunction; MRI is the first choice of the examination which is an important guide of the surgery; Ependymoma、 Schwannoma and cyst were most in conus medullairs intramedullary tumor Microsurgery is the only effective method, radiotherapy and chemotherapy are important adjuvant therapy of malignant tumors.
