Background:The conventional investigation of patients who present with syncope involves ECG, Holter monitor, head-up tilt and electrophysiological testing. A symptom-rhythm correlation is often difficult to obtain because of its unpredictable nature. Methods and Results:We used the implantable loop recorders (ILR) to assess the cause of syncope in11patients (age,57.82±3.01years). The mean episodes before implanting were2.27±0.41. During a mean of124.7±27.45days of follow-up, syncope recurred in3patients (27.27%)69±60.1days after implantable loop recorder insertion(one was in an asystole, another was observed occasional ventricular premature beat which cannot explain the recurrence of syncope, the other patient who experienced syncope recurrence has not come back to the hospital yet, thus the recorder remains unclear). An asystole was also detected in another patient who had no symptoms. According to these data, we consider the diagnosis rate of synocope is18.18%(2/11) The two patients who experienced asystole mentioned before received pacemarker therapy. After treatment syncope did not recur up to now.1of11patients died due to multiple myeloma. No pocket infection and no improper using of activating the device happened in all patients. Conclusion:ILR can efficiently improve the diagnostic rate of synocope and it is convenient and safe.
