Objective:To detect the expression of FHIT (fragile histidine triad gene),ER(estrogen receptor) and PR(progesterone receptor) in chronic cervicitis, CIN(cervical intraepithelial neoplasia) and cervical squamous cell carcinoma tissues, thereby explore their co-relationship, and the clinical significance of this combined detection on diagnosis of cervical precancerous lesions. Methods:Immunohistochemistry streptavidin-peroxidase (SP) method was used to detect the expression of FHIT, ER and PR protein in chronic cervicitis (20cases), CIN (30cases,CIN I, II, III each10cases) and cervical squamous cell carcinoma tissues (20cases).Results:The miss rate of FHIT, ER and PR protein expression in chronic cervicitis, CIN and cervical squamous cell carcinoma tissues was rising according to the severity of cervical lesions, with a statistical difference. There was statistical difference in expression of FHIT and ER between CIN I and CIN Ⅱ~Ⅲ groups (P<0.05), While there was no such difference in PR expression between the same groups(P>0.05). Correlation analysis shows positive correlation among the expression of FHIT protein respectively with ER and PR (γ=0.694, P<0.01; γ=0.344, P<0.01).It shows no statistical difference among the expression of FHIT,ER and PR in cervical squamous cell carcinoma tissues among groups of differed clinical stage, histological grade or lymph node metastasis presence-or-absence.Conclusion:1. FHIT, ER and PR protein detection may help to predict the carcinogenesis and progression of cervical cancer on molecular biology level.2. The expression of FHIT and ER altered at the early stage of cervical cancer, thereby can be used to predict the outcome and direct the clinical treatment of CIN.3.The expression of FHIT correlates that of ER and PR protein, among different cervical lessions.
