Objective: To compare the differences between papillary thyroid cancer (PTC)coexistent with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis (HT), and papillary thyroid cancer coexistentwithout Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, for investigating the clinical and pathological featuresof papillary thyroid cancer coexistent with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on the clinical and pathological featuresof60patients, of which30cases were papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) coexistent withHashimoto’s thyroiditis (HT), and the other30cases were papillary thyroid cancer(PTC) coexistent without Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. These patients were treated in TheFirst Affiliated Hospital of Wannan Medical University Yijishan Hospital betweenJanuary2011and December2012.Results: The case of PTC with coexistence of HT, compared with PTC without thecoexistence of HT, have a lower rate of nodal metastasis(33.3%vs60.0%,P<0.05),witha higher incidence of minimum cancer(63.3%vs33.3%,P<0.05),The rate of ultrasonicdiagnosis was very low in the cases(46.7%vs73.3%,P<0.05), and the rate ofpathological diagnosis by frozen diagnosis was also low(80.0%vs96.7%,P<0.05), anda more favorable prognosis (0.0%vs13.3%,P<0.05). But, there was no significantdifference between the two cases in the extrathyroidal invasion and the multifocality(P0.05).Conclusion: A close relationship exists between PTC and HT, PTC complication withHT would have several clinical features, such as more difficult preoperative diagnosis,a lower rate of nodal metastasis, a higher incidence of minimum cancer, and a more favorable prognosis; For HT patients, which combined with thyroid nodules andcalcification, should be closely followed up for a long time, to detect thyroid papillarycarcinoma early and have a early and timely diagnosis and reasonable treatment; Wealso should be highly suspicious of the PTC, when some characteristic structures havebeen founded under the background of HT, such as Psammoma bodies.
