Objective To explore the characteristics of geographical distribution of lung cancer in Zhejiang province and the risk factors that effect the distribution. Offering clues to etiological study and providing scientific proof for the prevention and control of lung cancer Methods We collected the data of lung cancer incidence and meteorological geographic factors from25counties in Zhejiang during2011. Then we utilized the spatial prediction function of the geographic information system to form the spatial geographic maps of lung cancer standardized incidence. The method of stepwise multiple backward regression and correlation analysis were used for the comprehensive analysis of relation between the characteristics and lung cancer. Results There are8291new reported cases of lung cancer in Zhejiang province in2011, included5998male patients and2283female patients. The reported incidence rate of lung cancer is57.95/100,000, and its standardized rate is47.01/100,000. The incidence of lung cancer increases progressively with age, and reach its peck at age of80. The geographical distribution of incidence of lung cancer in Zhejiang province present obvious characteristics, that the incidence rate is higher in the north than in the east and west, especially, the northern Zhejiang, such as Jiaxing, Hangzhou, Shangyu, in which the incidence rate is as high as50/100,000, and the incidence rate in the west of Zhejiang, for instance Quzhou, Lishui, is lower than35/10. There are three factors, such as air quality index(AQI), forest coverage rate, per capita disposable income of urban residents, which were associated with incidence of lung cancer by spearman correlation test. And the GIS shows that poor air quality is a risk factor for lung cancer. Conclusion The lung cancer incidence rate shows a general upward trend in recent years, which largely because of Smoking, the aging of the population and the environmental pollution. The geographical distribution of lung cancer in Zhejiang province shows significant regional difference, and there are some association between air quality index(AQI), forest coverage rate, per capita disposable income of urban residents and the incidence of lung cancer. Therefore, increasing the forest coverage rate and controlling air pollution may play an important role in lung cancer prevention.
