Background pulmonary cryptococcosis is a subacute or chronic pulmonary fungal disease caused by Cryptococcus neoformans infection. The most common in acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, AIDS), immune function caused by the use of corticosteroids, immunosuppressive and antitumor drugs in patients with impaired. In recent years, the incidence rate of the patients without fundamental diseases increase. The clinical features of pulmonary cryptococcosis without fundamental disease has no specificity, easily misdiagnosed as tuberculosis, cancer and other diseases. Methods A total of29cases of pulmonary crypotocosis (PC) diagnosed at The First Affiliated Hospital of Medical School of Zhejiang University from2008to2010were retrospectively analyzed. All cases were identified by pathological study. Results The patients were consisted of16males and13females, with median age of39.5(17to73)years. All of them were without fundamental disease. The most patients were asymptomatic or with mild respiratory and(or) constitutional symptoms. The common computed tomography(CT) scan patterns were nodules and mass, either solitary or multiple, infiltration and consolidation, or diffused and mixed lesions. Cavitation was found in3cases, either solitary or multiple. All cases were identified by percutaneous lung biopsy or postoperative pathology. Conclusions The patients without fundamental disease also can suffer from Pulmonary cryptococcosis. The symptoms are mild, and the imaging patterns are multiple and lack of characteristics. Thus, the early adoption of percutaneous lung biopsy for pathological diagnosis was necessary. Application of antifungal agents adequately were effective.
