ObjectiveSOX7was down-regulated or silenced in many human tumor tissues.SOX7transcript-ion factor may be a tumor suppressor gene. This study aims to investigate the expressionand clinical significance of SOX7in non-small cell lung cancer and the matched adjacentnormal lung tissues.Materials and MethodsImmunohistochemical studies were performed on60pairs of non-small cell lung can-cer and adjacent normal lung tissues to investigate the expression of SOX7protein.The ex-pression of SOX7mRNA was detected by quantitative real-time reverse transcription poly-merase chain reaction(qRT-PCR) and2-△△Ctmethod in non-small cell cancer and thematched adjacent normal lung tissues.ResultsSOX7protein was expressed in the cytoplasm. The expression level of SOX7proteinwas significantly lower in non-small cell lung cancer tissues than that in the normal lung ti-ssuees(χ2=34.169,P<0.01). Expession levels of SOX7protein were correlated with tumordifferentiation(moderately and poorly differentiated group had lower expression)(χ2=21.321,P=0.000<0.01).SOX7protein was higher expression in phase I than in phaseII-IIIA(χ2=11.650,P=0.001<0.01).SOX7mRNA expression was significantly down-regul-ated in lung adenocarcinoma compared with the matched adjacent normal tissues(P<0.01).SOX7mRNA expression was significantly down-regulated in lung aquamous cellcancer compared with matched adjacent normal lung tissues(P<0.01).Expession levels ofSOX7mRNA were correlated with tumor differentiation(poorly differentiated had lowerexpression)(t=8.992,P=0.000<0.01).The expression of SOX7in phase I is higher than thatin phase II-IIIA(t=3.792,P=0.001<0.01).In contrast,no significant correlations were ident-ified between SOX7expression in the non-small cell lung cancer and age, gender, smoking history and histology subtype.ConclusionDown-regulated of SOX7expression may be involved in carcinogenesis of non-smallcell lung cancer.SOX7behaves as a tumor suppressor in non-small lung cancer.
