Purpose: To evaluate the curative effect and credibility of acupuncture treatment ofdepressive disorders.Methods: Computer retrieval was used in the study. This study searched the ChinaNational Knowledge Internet (CNKI), WanFang Database (WF) and WeiPu Internet(VIP) for documents of last30years by keywords or themes “Zhen” and “DepressiveDisorders” by the time December,2013. Insert the Randomized Controlled Trials(RCT) into analyze which used acupuncture as the main method to treat depressiveorders. Extract data and check the content according to the requirement of CochraneSystem Evaluation Handbook4.2.2, and RCT was studied by using the software ofRevMan5.2in the acupuncture treatment method and other methods for the treatmentof depressive disorder by Meta analysis. Applying random or fixed effects model todeal with efficacy of the Odds Ratio (OR) index about treatment of depressivedisorder of acupuncture.Results: Totally467documents were retrieved in the research,87literatures were inaccordance with the final requirements and16articles completely using randomizedcontrolled trial according to modified Jadad score, eliminating the documents of3minutes or less. Meta analysis showed that the simple acupuncture therapy,acupuncture combined with electroacupuncture, acupuncture combined with drugs,using the number of acupuncture prescription different overall treatment of depressivedisorder are more effective than drug treatment, but there are differences between thespecific groups. Furthermore acupuncture has a certain improving effect for theimprovement of some simultaneous phenomenon of depressive disorder.Conclusion: There is no much difference between acupuncture and drugs in the treatment of depressive disorder. But acupuncture has advantages including lessside-effect, less affected by time and environment, and more flexible. Therefore it isworth generalizing in clinic. High-quality randomized controlled trials which havelarge sample, multi center and scientific methodology are required to further verifythe above conclusions.
