Objective:To evaluate the effect of mindfulness training on physical and mental health indicators of menopausal women and to discuss the build of mindfulness training-based mental health mode for this group. Methods:Women recruited from communities were randomly divided into two groups. The experimental group took an8-week mindfulness training course and recorded daily steps using pedometers. The control group only recorded daily steps during these eight weeks and would have compensatory mindfulness training course after eight weeks. Pre-and post-tests for both groups were conducted during one week before and one week after the8-week intervention accordingly. Menopause Rating Scale, together with psychological rating scales for depression, anxiety, and sleep were used to evaluate relevant indicators. Menopausal symptoms, sleep patterns, blood pressure, blood fat, weight, and waist-to-hip ratio were also recorded before and after the study for both groups. The comparison of the difference of each indicator between two groups was also undertaken.Results:1. Changes on menopausal symptoms:comparing pre-and post-tests on overall modified Kupperman score, the difference between experimental and control groups is statistically significant (p<0.05). Mood swing, joint pain, headache, cardiopalmus, and formication scores in pre-and post-tests are also statistically significant (p<0.05) between two groups. 2. Changes on mental health:for the experimental group, the difference of scores in Self-rating Depression Scale, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, General Well-being Schedule in pre-and post tests is statistically significant (p<0.05).3. Changes on medical examination:for the experimental group, the systolic blood pressure is80.3±9.34mmHg in the pre-test and77.3±8.05mmHg in the post-test. The difference is statistically significant (p=0.025).Conclusion:1. Mindfulness training could improve the score of Menopause Rating Scale in general and ease menopausal symptoms like paresthesia, mood swing, and formication. It also has certain effects on treating joint pain, headache, and urinary infection, etc.2. Mindfulness training is an effective psychological intervention in terms of improving the happiness and reducing anxiety and depression of menopausal women.3. Mindfulness training has certain effects on reducing the blood pressure among menopausal women.
