Objective: To study the expression of liver cancer stem cell marker CD133 in hepatocellular carcinoma tissues and portal vein tumor thrombus(PVTT) tissues, and the correlation of CD133 in the formation of PVTT, and analyze the risk factors of the prognosis in the liver cancer with PVTT.Methods: The 217 cases of liver cancer resection operation of hepatic cell carcinoma tissues in our hospital during the period from Feb 2012 to Mar 2014 were detected the expression of CD133 by the immunohistochemical method, and compared the correlation between the expression and clinical data. Then discussing the prognosis affecting of liver cancer with PVTT.Results: ① In the 217 cases of specimens, 86 cases of non-PVTT, 96 cases of the microscopic PVTT, 35 cases of the macroscopic PVTT, PVTT ratio was 60.4%(131/217).The percentage of positive cells of CD133 in hepatocellular carcinoma tissues with non-PVTT was(2.23±2.85)%, The percentage of positive cells of CD133 in hepatocellular carcinoma tissues with the microscopic PVTT was(4.02±2.79)%, The percentage of positive cells of CD133 in hepatocellular carcinoma tissues with PVTT was(4.37±2.88)%. Compared with non-PVTT hepatocellular carcinoma tissues, the expressions of CD133 were significantly increased in the PVTT hepatocellular carcinoma tissues(P<0.05).②In the 35 cases of macroscopic PVTT, Compared with the hepatocellular carcinoma tissues, the positive expressions of CD133 were significantly increased in the PVTT tissues(P<0.05).③There were obvious correlation between the expression of CD133 and the formation of PVTT, TNM stages and Edmendson grades.(P<0.05). ④PVTT was the independent risk factors for the prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma.Conclusion: ①The incidence of a disease with PVTT in liver cancer was higher.②The expression of CD133 in liver cancer with PVTT was increasing.③There were obvious correlations between the expression of CD133 and the formation of PVTT.④PVTT was the independent risk factors for the prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma.
