Objective:By investigating the functional dyspepsia status of teenagers in Suzhou as well as analyzing the prevalence and influencing factors of functional dyspepsia among teenagers, we were to provide a new basis for its prevention and treatment and take some effective actions to carry on early prevention so that we can reduce the prevalence of functional dyspepsia.MethodsThe study used a stratified, cluster sampling. At first, two Junior and two High schools were selected from Suzhou city; Secondly, 10 classes were selected from four schools above, the two classes were from every Grade one and Grade two of Junior, three from every Grade one and Grade two of High schools, and the proportion of students from the extracted Junior and two High schools was 1:1; The third stage, the all students of the selected classes participated in the study. A total of 1000 students took part in the physical measurements and questionnaires. The survey was from Oct. 21 st to Nov. 6th in 2013.The data was entered into a database based by Epidata3.1. We used SPSS19.0Software to analyze the data. The inspection level α was 0.05. We applied descriptive statistics analysis, t-test, ANOVA, logistic regression analysis and other analysis methods to explore the status and the related influencing factors of functional dyspepsia for teenagers.ResultsOne thousand young people took part in our survey, which recovered 924 valid questionnaires, the effective rate was 92.4%(924/1000). 228 students were Grade One and 202 students were Grade Two of Junior school, 247 students were Grade One and247 students were Grade Two of High school. Age ranged from 11 to 18 years old, the mean age was 14.67±1.42 years.1. The survey showed that the number of functional dyspepsia was 107, the overall prevalence rate of functional dyspepsia was 11.58%(107/924), the prevalence rate of male was 9.09%(43/473), the female was 14.19%(64/451), the male and female students prevalence of functional dyspepsia was significantly by χ2 test( χ2 =5.8642, P < 0.05). The prevalence of functional dyspepsia in Junior school was 11.63%(50/430), the prevalence of High school students was 11.54%(57/494), the prevalence of functional dyspepsia in Junior and High school was not statistically significant by theχ2test( χ2= 0.0018, P > 0.05).2. Univariate Logistic regression analysis showed that sex, engorgement, being choosy in food, often eating overheated food, wine drinking, the time of sleep, the history of food and drug allergies, frequent oral administration of drugs, family history, constipation were the influencing factors for functional dyspepsia at the significance level of 0.20.3. Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that gender, being choosy in food, frequent oral administration of drugs and constipation were increasing the prevalence of functional dyspepsia, the OR and 95% confidence intervals(95% CI)were 1.633(1.053,2.532), 1.722(1.091,2.720), 2.351(1.328,4.162), 2.408(1.446,4.010)respectively.Conclusion:1. The total prevalence of functional dyspepsia was 11.58%(107/924), the prevalence of male was 9.09%(43/473), and the female was 14.19%(64/451).2. The main influencing factors of functional dyspepsia were gender, being choosy in food, frequent oral administration of drugs, constipation. The subjective who were female, choosy in food, frequent oral administration of drugs and constipation were the focus of the functional dyspepsia.
