Wu Ju-Tong’s Academic Thought About Autumn Dryness Treatment

There are related studies have been confirmed that the rising of the concentrations of atmospheric fine particulate matters is closely related to the generation of respiratory symptoms.the decreased of lung function and the onset of asthma.PM2.5 are poisonous to the cells of our bodies, which complicated mechanism is not fully clear. Through the observations of the patients with respiratory disease outpatient service in fog-haze period, it is found that the mainly clinical symptoms include dry mouth, dryness of the nasal cavity and throat, epistaxis, pharyngeal itching, chocking cough, dry cough with scanty phlegm, viscous phlegm that is not easy to produce, or sputum with blood, and so on. These symptoms are in conformity with the pathogenic characteristics of dry evil in traditional Chinese medicine. Therefore, it may considers treatment based on syndrome differentiation from dry evil in clinical. The syndrome differentiation of traditional Chinese medicine for dry evil has a relatively rich theoretical basis and clinical practice.Especially, with the establishment of the theory of science of seasonal febrile diseases in qing dynasty, and San-jiao syndromes differentiation system was founded by Wu JuTong, making syndrome differentiation system of autumn dryness more systematic.This article systematically studies Wu ju-tong’s academic thoughts about autumn dryness treatment, through learning from not only Huangdi’s Canon of Medicine but also Yu chang and Ye gui.On this basis, combined with his own clinical enlightenment, he had a lot of development. Combined with the theory of five evolutive phases and six climatic factors in Canon of Medicine, he illustrates the source of the dry gas, and according to the theory, he states the transformation of autumn dryness, and further sets forth separatively the classification of the dryness.Above all, Wu combine the triple-energizer syndrome differentiation and defensive-qi-nutrient-blood syndrome differentiation, expounding the change regularity of autumn dryness evolution and pathogenesis. According to the properties and flavors’ legislation that based on the properties and flavors’ theory, he made many new-prescriptions to treat the autumn dryness, It is Wu ju-tong that enriching and perfecting the theory about autumn dryness.Through reading relevant ancient literature materials of traditional Chinese medicine, this study summarize and classify medical works that concern dryness.After careful research and detailed analysis, this paper systematically sum up Wu ju-tong’s experience in the differentiation and treatment of autumn dryness, and in order to provide theoretical guidance for some diseases today, which are characterized as dry.
