Recent years, clinical studies have found that increased serum triglyceride levels are highly related to atherosclerosis, which independently of serum levels of high-density lipoproteins and low-density lipoproteins. Among triglyceride-rich lipoproteins, remnant lipoproteins are considered to be atherogenic and independent coronary risk factor. Mechanism studies showed that remnant lipoproteins induce the occurrence of atherogenesis by a series of complex pathological process, which including induce the proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells, impair the function of endothelium cells and induce its apoptosis, promote the occurrence of inflammation and also influence the metabolism of other lipoproteins. Thus, in theory, decrease the serum level of remnant lipoprotein, suppress its metabolism could regulate the atherogenesis. |
