ObjectiveNasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), it is one of the high incidence head and neck malignant tumors in southern China and southeast Asia countries. Radiation therapy combination with chemotherapy has been the main treatme nt of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. With the development of science and techno logy, Intensity-modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) technology has been us ed in the treatment of Nasopharyngeal carcinoma. The five-year survivalra te of patients has been improved, many kinds of complications have beensi gnificantly reduced. However, when the radiation is more than toleranceof body, it bound to get damage and have complications. Therefore, Nasophar yngeal carcinoma patients with radiotherapy, will appear many kinds of co mplications, which will seriously affects the quality of life. How to red uce the complications, and improving the quality of life in patients with NPC radiotherapy, it has always been a topic in NPC treatment. Thisresear ch will use the FACT-H&N(V4.0), a head and neck carcinoma patients qual ity of life scale and Radiation-observation, to observe the NPC patient’s QOL and acute radio-reaction, with Pulse-taking Acupuncture treatments d uring the stage of acute radio-reactions. Through the trial group compare d with control group, observing the effect on NPC patient’s QOL and acute radio-reaction with Pulse-taking Acupuncture treatment.Methods56 cases NPC patients, diagnosed by pathology, range in 18*" 70 yea rs-old, no radiation, clinical stage III and IV (UICC), without distant metastases, informed consent and can cooperate with researchers, accord ing to the ratio of 1:3 were random distribution into trial group and control group, there were 14 cases in the trial group and 42 cases in the control group, trial group will treated by Intensity-modulated Radi ation Therapy(IMRT) combination with Pulse-taking Acupuncture, thecontr ol group will treated only by Intensity-modulated Radiation Therapy(IMR T), two group of patients will given chemotherapy base on platinum. Fil 1 out the FACT-H&N(V4.0) before-radiotherapy and after-radiotherapy on e month by patients, the scale is divided into five modules, each questi on set 0 to 4 answer options, forward entry score=0+the answer opti ons, reverse entry score=4-the answer options, the higher the score the higher quality of life. And fill out the Radiation-observation in t he early days of the radiotherapy (radiation 5+1), medium (15+1) radi otherapy, the end of the radiotherapy (28+1) by researchers, according to the acute radiation reactions stage 0 to IV, marked:4,3,2,1,0, the higher the score the lighter the radio-reaction. Using SPSS 20.0 s tatistical package database and statistical analysis, using t test, rep etitive measurement deviation analysis, rank statistics methods, and so on, observing the differences about NPC patient’s QOL and acute radio-reaction with two group.ResultsAfter radiotherapy, trial group in physical condition (PWB), social and family status (SWB), emotional state (EWB), functional status (FWB), head and neck module and survival quality total score were higher than the control group, P<0.05, the difference was statistically significant. In the early days of radiotherapy, the medium of radiotherapy, the end of radiotherapy, by comparing with control group, the acute radio-reaction scores of trial group were higher than the control group, P<0.05, the difference was statistically significant. Patients with different sex and different stage grade, in the NPC patient’s QOL and acute radio-reaction, all P>0.05, there were no statistically significant difference between different sex and between different stage.ConclusionsPulse-taking Acupuncture is a effective way to improve the NPC pati ent’s QOL and reduce acute radio-reaction. It is benefit for the NPC p atients who will take radiotherapy.
