Objective:To compar the clinical outcomes of right lateral mini-thor acotomy(RLMT) versus conventional median sternotomedy (MS) in the tre atment of congenital heart disease(CHD).Method:A total of 76 patients with CHD received either RLMT (n= 19) or MS (n=62) were reviewed retrospectively between November 2013 and December 2014.Results:There was no surgical mortality in either group. Temporary pacemakers were inserted in one patients in RLMT and two patients in MS group respectively, We found the length of incision was short, and the use of painkiller was less in RLMT group when compared with MS group (P<0.05). No significant association was found in operating time, cardiopulmonary bypass time, aorta clamping time, ventilator support time, ICU stay, chest-tube drainage, and hospital stay. Conclusions:RLMT can be performed safely and effectively in the treatment of CHD, In comparison with standard MS, the RLMT approach, without impairing the integrity of the bony thorax, was associated with less injury and postoperative pain. It was worthy of further clinical application.
