| OBJECTIVE:Summary of treatment experience of trauma induced cerebrospinal fluid leakage and exploration of related efficient methods.METHODS:Retrospective study of 49 trauma induced cerebrospinal fluid leakage patients of First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University from January 2008 to June 2014. Patients were divided into conservative treatment group and surgical group. Conservative treatment consisted of traditional conservative observation and continuous lumbar cistern drainage. Both groups of patients were analyzed and the clinical experience and characteristics is reviewed.RESULTS:Of the 49 patients,5 patients received early surgery,4 patients had complete cure and 1 patient died.44 patients were first given conservative treatment,30 patients had complete cure in the 1st week,14 patients showed no result,8 patients received further continuous lumbar cistern drainage and cured on the 2nd week,6 patients showed no significant result after 2 weeks and performed delayed continuous lumbar cistern drainage.5 patients received surgery and was successful,1 patient had intracranial infection and further surgery needed.CONCLUSION:After proper treatment, majority of the patients can be cured, trauma induced cerebrospinal fluid leakage patients show good response to conservative treatment. For severe bone fracture, large volume hematoma, significant cerebrospinal fluid leakage patients; early surgery is a good option. Large majority of the patients can be cured within the first 3 week, if there is still leakage patients must have prompt surgery to prevent further complications. |
