Bronchiolitis is a common lower respiratory tract diseases in infancy, and it has become one of the main diseases affecting the global child health due to its high incidence. It usually occurs in children aged less than two years, among them the children less than six months are the most common cases. The main symptom is breathing and lung wheezing sound, and the duration of the symptom usually less than two weeks. The pathogenesis of bronchiolitis is very complex, so in the aspect of treatment, anti-infection, asthma, phlegm, and application of glucocorticoids symptomatic and supportive treatment were the mainly therapeutic tool presently. There is no effective treatment measures so far. In recent years, the morbidity and mortality of bronchiolitis have shown an increasing trend, and the cost of diagnosis and treatment of the disease is increasing year by year as well. It casues serious social and economic burden.Bronchiolitis is mainly infected by virus, among them respiratory syncytial virus(RSV) is the most common pathogens, which account for fifty to eighty percent of the total pathogenic factors. However, the specific mechanisms still need further study.RSV is the most common cause of bronchiolitis, pneumonia and also the earliest confirmed pathogen. RSV not only can cause direct damage to the bronchioles, but also can lead to a series of inflammatory reaction mediated by the immune response, which promote the occurrence of bronchiolitis. In order to depply understanding of the relationship between RSV and pathogenesis of bronchiolitis, this paper detailed reviewed the correlation of RSV with bronchiolitis. This will provide more theoretical basis for the pathogenesis of bronchiolitis, and provide new ideas for the treatment of bronchiolitis.
