The prevalence rate of malocclusion has increased to 67.81% in our country. The malocclusion may influence the develop of maxilloface, the oral health and function, the appearance, and the psychological health. The number of orthodontic patients is increasing during these years. The enamel demineralization usually takes place during fixed orthodontic treatment. Well, the introduction of fixed orthodontic appliances may result in this phenomenon. During the orthodontic process, many orthodontic appliances have to be bonded to the teeth surfaces. Orthodontic appliance can limit the cleaning of teeth, which result to accumulation of dental plaque. But on the othe side,we can see that some patients’ teeth do not present obvious demineralization even though the poor oral hygiene and long orthodontic treatment time. What is the real demineralization susceptibility of fixed orthodontic patients? This research was undertaken to study the microflora of orthodontic patients analysis the differences in fixed orthodontic patients before and after orthodontic treatment, and then find out the connection between enamel demineralization and flora changes on the tooth surface during fixed orthodontic treatment.Purpose:Analyze the microflora change during fixed orthodontic treatment; Analyze the connection between oral health and microflora changes. Methods:Randomly selected 20 fixed orthodontic patients, whose teeth without enamel demineralization from the orthodontic department of dental hospital of Shandong University from August 2013 to August 2014. Scrape plaque from upper incisors before orthodontic treatment. At the same time, randomly selected 20 fixed orthodontic patients who have been treated for 2 years and whose teeth without enamel demineralization. Scrape plaque from upper incisors from them. Results:Compared with the no orthodontic treatment group, the kinds of bacteria have not reduced a lot in the orthodontic treatment group(P>0.05).145 genera have been found in the experiment. And 10 of them take about 70% of all the bacteria, they are Parascardovia, Rothia, Corynebacterium, Leptotrichia, Streptococcus, Selenomonas, Prevotella, Capnocytophaga, Hylemonella. Six genera have changed obviously in the treatment group, and they included Parascardovia, Leptotrichia, Corynebacterium, Streptococcus, Selenomonas, Prevotella. Our results show that the strcture and microbial composition of oral bacterial communities is different before and after the orthodontic treatment. Conclusions:After the orthodontic fixed appliances are positioned in the patients’dentition, the Streptococcus, Corynebacterium, Leptotrichia, Antinomycetes, and Lactobacillus increased in the palque of teeth surface. These changes may suggest that oral microflora will change after the fixed appliances used, then get into another kind of balance during the treatment.
