ObjectiveThe purpose of the experiment is to study the clinical effect of bee needle therapy on blood pressure, and investigate the safety of its therapeutic effect. Through the study, we will be able to evaluate the efficacy and safety of the bee needle therapy, and the result will help us better establish clinical safety guidelines in the future.MethodsThe study samples consisted of 220 patients, using self-control contrast method, the samples were divided into groups by age, gender, history of hypertension, and number of bee needles. During the therapy, all patients were applied with live bee sting pricks into acupuncture points, which were quickly removed once applied (without squeezing out the poison sac). A maximum of 2 bee needles were used for the first 10 treatments, and if no adverse reaction was observed, the number of needle could be increased according to the specific condition of each patient, with a maximum number of 30 bee needles. Following the initial treatment, each bee needle was retained for about 10 minutes, and the patients continued the treatment every other day. The acupuncture points selected for bee needle application were Shenshu (BL 23), Zusanli (ST 36) and Waiguan (SJ 5) located on the lateral sides of the arm, foot and lumbar. All tested subjected received treatments in rest state conditions at about 9 to 11 0’clock in the morning. In order to study the therapeutic effect of the bee needle therapy, the blood pressure was recorded before each treatment, and then again,10 minutes and 20 minutes after each treatment.Results① The young-adult group (less than 30 years old) with or without history of hypertension:Difference of SBP(Systolic blood pressure), DBP(Diastolic blood pressure) before and after treatment in several time points of both group showed no significant difference. ② The middle-aged adult group (31-60 years old) with or without of hypertension:Difference of SBP, DBP before and after treatment in several time points of both group showed a statistically significant difference (both P<0.05). ③ The elderly group (above 61 years old) without history of hypertension:Difference of SBP, DBP before and after treatment in several time points of both group showed no significant difference; however, in the elderly group with history of hypertension, there was a statistically significant difference (both P<0.05). ④ A greater effect on diastolic blood pressure was observed when using 11-20 bee needles(61.76%), But effect on systolic blood pressure was observed when using more 21 bee needles (83.33%). ⑤ Gender difference on the effect of blood pressure showed no significant difference.Conelusion1、The Bee needle therapy delivered greater effects on blood pressure in the middle-aged adult group with or without history of hypertension (with a blood pressure fluctuation over 20 mmHg), which is followed by the elderly group with history of hypertension; whereas, there was no significant difference in the young-adult group.2、The Bee needle therapy delivered greater effects on blood pressure in the history of hypertension, which is followed by without history of hypertension patients.4、After The Bee needle therapy of patients with blood pressure tend to be normal, that The Bee acupuncture therapy has bidirectional regulation in blood pressure, that it is safety and effective for regulating blood pressure, worthy of promotion.
