Horticultural therapy has great significance on human health. Plant and their living environments as well as the related activities are the three main factors that maintain and restore physical and mental functions to improve the quality of life. Tree peony, as the national flower of China, is very popular and has been used in chanting and painting for thousand years. It has a high ornamental value and is widely used in gardens. To study the effects of tree peony viewing activities on human physiology and psychology, people will have a better understanding of the effects of flowers on human health and guide the choose of horticultural plants in horticultural therapy.The effects of tree peony viewing activities on physiology and psychology was analyzed by testing blood pressure, emotional state and heart rate of 21 volunteers in Northwest Sci-Tech University of Agriculture and Forestry. The study found that their average of systolic pressure, diastolic pressure, arterial pressure and heart rate were overall fell down whenever there was full of flowers or no flower. The downward trend was more obvious when there was full of flowers and no significant difference was found between male and female. The volunteers’ negative emotions were dropped. It can be proved that tree peony viewing activities has a good affection on human health.
