Since the Human Genome Project (HGP) which was begun in1990beingcompleted, genetic engineering has been developed rapidly. Presently, It has beenapplied to various field, such as healthcare, agriculture, livestock farming, foodindustry, environmental protection and so on. Genetic testing is one of the mostimportant of them. In recent years, the economy of China has been developed at highspeed. Accordingly, the living level of Chinese people has been improved in a largerange, accompanied by the increasing demand of high level healthcare of high-incomeclasses. In the same time, the development and combination of biology, medicine andinformation technology make it possible that healthcare focus on maintaining healthand preventing disease. Moreover, the emerging of the Next-Generation SequencingTechnology facilitated the extending of genetic testing to community population.However, good and bad genetic testing enterprises mixed together in the marketdue to the lack of supervision of relevant government departments. The validityevaluation of genetic testing was ignored by most of the corporations as well ascustomers. In addition, a lot of social problems accompanied with the development ofgenetic testing, including exaggerative marketing, high profit, and a series of socialproblems such as gene discrimination, privacy protection associated with genetictesting information.This article described the situation(including technical development, examinationorganization, test items, price) and environment(including political, economic, social,medical and industrial environment, etc) the current development of genetic testing inChina and abroad, discussed in detail the development of domestic genetic testingenterprises, and put forward the corresponding strategic protection programs in orderto provide theoretical basis for the healthy, scientific and orderly development ofgenetic testing industry.
