【Objective】 The research is to provide clinical references for continuous infections caused by Rhinoplasty. We observed the expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (e-PTFE) subcutaneously implanted in different levels in the SD rat skin to explore the expanded implant infection in contact with the hair follicle.[Method] In this study, first proposed hypothesis:ePTFE prosthesis in contact with the hair follicles easily leads to infection. We selected40SD rats and randomly divided them into experimental group (n=20) and control group (n=20); each rat in the dorsal midline is bounded into left and right sides, we require that the left side of the experimental group A, and the right for experimental B; the control group left side is C, and the right side is D. In the experimental group A side:ePTFE prosthesis implanted between the deep fascia and superficial fascia (muscular), experimental group B side:ePTFE prosthesis implanted in the lower dermis. Groups C and D were without any ePTFE implants, and were made corresponding comparisons to the experimental groups A, B-sides. The results were observed in the1,2,3, and4weeks, respectively.General observation on the prosthesis area of SD rats’skin conditions, and observe prosthesis and infiltration of inflammatory cells by ELISA technique analysis by IL-1b, IL-6and TNF-a and other inflammatory factor level. The obtained data were statistically analyzed to reveal the secondary infection caused by implantation of expanded implant in relations of contacts with the hair follicles relationship.【Result】 In the experimental group of rats shows visible local skin irritation in the dorsal region where the e-PTFE were. It was very obvious the right side showed more infection than the left side. Observation from the fourth week, ELISA results strongly suggest that inflammation in the experimental group on the right side more severe than the left side time given the inflammation gradually increased on the right side, whereas the left side did not change significantly. The degree of infection on the right side became more severe whereas the left side remained the same; There were no such changes in the right and left sides of the rats in the control group. After statistical analysis, the difference between the groups provides significance in the statistical data.【Conclusion】The study shows it is easy to cause local infection when ePTFE implanted in lower dermis in rats, which the prosthesis was in contact with the hair follicle. Similarly, when performs a rhinoplasty surgery, it is likely to lead to infection when the prosthesis is in contact with prosthetic nose hair roots. Accordingly, the results of this clinical research provides references for the prevention of secondary infection caused by ePTFE in rhinoplasty surgery.
