Objective: To analyze the polysomnogram characteristics of patients with subacute and chronicinsomnia comparatively, then discuss the difference and significance on polysomnogramcharacteristics between patients with subacute insomnia and patients with chronic insomnia. Methods: Patients were screened in the study through strict structural clinical interview, usingthe diagnostic criteria for primary insomnia according to the Guidelines for Diagnosis andTreatment of Chinese Adult Patients with Insomnia, and classified as subacute insomnia groupand chronic insomnia group according to the course of disease. All subjects enrolled in the studywere investigated by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) to assess their subjective sleepquality, then parameters of polysomnogram of all subjects were selected and analyzed in the firstand second nights when enrolled. The SPSS17.0analysis soft ware was used to build up a database and do the statistics. Results: A total of74patients with primary insomnia were detected and enrolled in the study,including38patients with sunacute insomnia and36patients with chronic insomnia. Bycompared polysomnogram characteristics of two groups, results of PSG showed that1. Patientswith chronic insomnia performed worse in sleep maintenance and had more awake times thanpatients with subacute insomnia (11.62±7.34v.s.8.44±5.25, P=0.040);2. Patients with chronicinsomnia had less NREM3sleep stages than patients with subacute insomnia (8.58%±9.57%v.s.17.00%±13.49%, P=0.012);Conclusions: There are significant differences in polysomnogram characteristics betweenpatients with different course of insomnia. Patients with chronic insomnia have more significantdestroy in sleep than patients with subacute insomnia, showed mainly worse sleep maintenanceand less deep sleep.
