Objectives Investigate the metabolic syndrome in the elderly ankle-brachial indexeffects. Methods Prospective cohort study method was used in our study101,510workers whohad participated in the2006.7~2007.10Kailuan health examination were stratifiedrandomly, and5,440participants with sufficient information for questionnaires and bloodbiochemical tests were recruited. The participants were classified into two groups, termedthe metabolic syndrome positive (MS+) and MS negative (MS-) groups, using thedefinition of metabolic syndrome according to the modified2004CDS criteria. In the2010~2011Kailuan health examination the ankle brachial index wave velocity (ABI) wastested and4,729were included for the final analysis. Multivariate Logistic regressionanalysis were used to calculate the MS rate ratios for ABI≤0.9.Results1Compare with non-MS group the level of hsCRP TG drinking and smokingwas higher in MS group.2The detection rate of ABI≤0.9is169(3.6%) in studypopulation,49(5.2%) was detected in MS group and120(3.2%) in non-MS group.3Thedetection rate of ABI≤0.9are higher in MS group even in different gende populations,MS group, male:34(5.6%), female:15(4.5%); non-MS group, male:74(3.5%) Women:46(2.8%).4Affect the ABI multivariate logistic regression analysis showed: MS group isthe risk factors for ABI≤0.9, the RR (95%CI) value of1.49(1.06to2.12, P<0.05), inthe male population, its RR (95%CI) values1.58(1.03to2.41, P<0.05).Conclusions In the elderly population MS is a long-term impact of ABI is anindependent risk factor and this is more significant in the male population.
